Footwear Size Guide
Fit Tips
Not all brands of footwear fit the same. The standard size guide below is a good indicator on what size you should wear, but there may be slight variations in sizing between different brands. Most foot problems can be prevented by wearing properly fitting footwear. Don’t assume that your footwear size remains the same. The shape of your feet changes as you get older. Have both feet measured regularly as most people have one foot larger than the other. Fit to the largest foot. Always try footwear with your regular work socks. Make sure that they are laced properly. The ends of your toes should not touch the front part of the footwear. To double check the fit untie the laces and slide your forefinger down the back of the footwear behind the heel. The ends of your toes should hit the front toe part of the footwear.

Footwear Care Tips
Take care of your Scruffs footwear and it’ll last longer. To ensure best use and wear it’s strongly recommended that Scruffs footwear is inspected and cleaned regularly. The following tips show you how:
Cleaning
- Remove stones & debris from the sole unit.
- On leather footwear wipe mud from all surfaces using a damp cloth and water only.
- On fabric footwear a cleaning gel can be used in addition to the above if required.
- Clean suede and nubuck gently with a suede brush. Remove stubborn marks with a suitable suede/nubuck cleaning product.
- Rubber soles can sometimes develop a white powdery surface. This can be wiped away easily using a damp cloth.
Drying
- Avoid wearing footwear that’s wet from previous use.
- Always allow footwear to dry naturally in a well ventilated area. Never force dry it with direct heat sources (radiators, heaters etc.).
Treating
- Make sure that the footwear is dry before application.
- Moisturise leather uppers regularly to prevent cracking. Use either a good quality cream for a matt finish or boot wax (best applied with fingers) for a polished shine. Pay special attention to the seams and tongue gusset.
General
- Suede and nubuck can’t be made totally colourfast. Take care not to mark carpets and furnishings.
- Use shoe/boot trees to maintain the shape of your footwear.
- Fit new laces before they become frayed to ensure maximum safety.

EN ISO 20345 was updated in 2022 with revised requirements:
With the introduction of the new safety footwear standard EN ISO 20345:2022 there are fundamental changes to how safety footwear is categorised.
• Two new safety footwear categories have been introduced S6 & S7
• The slip-resistance test method and markings have been changed
• Non-metallic inserts and insoles have a new test method and markings
• The symbol for water resistant uppers has been updated
• There are now additional, optional claims available for ladder grip and scuff cap resistance
• The slip-resistance claim for fuel oil is now optional
Existing footwear will continue to be covered by EN ISO 20345:2011 until the certificate expires. This standard is still relevant and safe, meeting the basic Health and Safety requirements of the PPE directive (EU) 2016/425 and 2016/425 as amended for GB.
Your footwear certified to EN ISO 20345:2011 is still compliant and safe. Certificates to EN ISO 20345:2011 can be issued up to November 2024, and will have a full 5 year validity date. You will see Scruffs products on the market which meet both versions of the standard until the new standard has been harmonised.
This international standard specifies basic and additional (optional) requirements for safety footwear used for general purposes. It includes, for example, mechanical risks, slip resistance, thermal risks and ergonomic behaviour. All Scruffs safety footwear styles are fitted with steel or composite toecaps to protect the wearer’s toes against risk of injury of falling objects and crushing when worn in work environments where potential hazards occur. Scruffs safety footwear also contains style that include a midsole, which protects against the foot being pierced by underfoot objects. The updated EN ISO 20345:2022 version introduces further categories to the standards table as defined below.
